I slept until about 11am this morning. Which wasn't really a lie in considering the time I got to bed. Becky and Andreas have a website, www.euroresidentes.com, and were having trouble with the server in America so I took David to the pool in the early afternoon while they tried to sort that out. I was absolutely shattered all day and found myself being less tolerant of David. Not that I was shouting or losing my temper, but I was less inclined to make a game of things - which wasn't really fair on him. I was really shattered all day. I´m one of those people who needs their sleep - and my mummy can vouch for that!
We had chicken and potato for lunch from a shop around the corner. Apparently that's a very typical style of Spanish fast food. Not fish and chips or curry, but salads and pastas and meats simply to take away. It was so yummy all spit roasted in it's own juices. Definitely better than a greasy burger.
I had a little siesta in the afternoon as I could hardly keen my eyes open. Unfortunately, as I only slept for an hour, I was more tired when I woke up than I had been when I went to sleep! At 6pm we went to David's school concert. It was brilliant! Each of the classes did something different, a song or a dance. Everyone was there, Spanish, English, German and French. The English class did a really excellent bit of country dancing and there was even staff participation. Poor Mr Moon, David's teacher, had to join in as one of the kids hadn't made it. At the end, all the classes sang "Freré Jacques" together each taking it in turn to sing it in their own language and then singing it alltogether.
In the evening I a lot of time to myself, for the first time all week really. I started writing letters to a few friends at home and found that I was really missing them. It's not that I'm homesick or wishing I was there instead of here, but I really want people to be here so that I can introduce them to Becky and everyone and show them the beach and the pool and the sunshine! I was really struggling trying not to think about what everyone at home is up to and whether they're missing me or just getting on with their own thing. Obviously I don't expect Reading to mourn the loss of me for 2 months to Spain, but a little more contact from home would be nice. Mother! You promised to call "in a day or two" to see how I was getting on. I don't think that the odd email negates that duty. Huh!
So I rang a good friend of mine in the evening and got a bit teary down the phone to her, telling her who I missed and asking what she was up to. She was soooo sweet, telling me she'd give anything to get away from Reading for a bit so she reckons she's going to jump on a plane and come see me. Nice thought. :o) Then she distracted me from feeling sorry for myself with news of Big Brother in England. It was just what I needed. :D I went to bed feeling a lot happier. (Thanks Thatch!)
