New rules for Spanish politicians

Today the leaders of the Spanish Parliament and the Senate are meeting to discuss a proposal which would get rid of a number of parliamentary privileges for Spanish politicians with regards to pension rights and the publication of personal assets and salaries. The meeting is the result of an ongoing process led by La José Bono, the leader of the Spanish parliament, which aims to modify pension rights for MPs and also members of the Senate along with changes other changes to MP’s rights and privileges. The right to be paid various salaries at the same time from public funds is one of the privileges that Bono would like to see changed and the publication of MPs salaries and assets is another. In addition to changes to salaries Bono and Javier Rojo, the leader of the Senate, want total transparency with regards to pension rights and the end to MP’s exceptional rights to be paid a full pension after just 11 years of paying contributions.
