E-coli scare: Consumers support Spanish producers

The crisis in the Spanish agricultural sector following false accusations over the link between E. Coli and cucumbers from Spain appears to have caused Spanish consumers to increase their consumption of this vegetable compared to 2010. Figures released yesterday by the Director of Industry and Food Commerce for the Ministry of Rural Affairs show that the consumption of Spanish vegetables and fruit has gone up compared to the same period last year especially the consumption of cucumbers, tomatoes and courgettes. More specifically in the case of cucumbers the consumption of this vegetable increased by 23.8% during the last week of June compared to the same month last year.
