In May this year the total amount of debt owed by families in Spain was 885,000 million euros which is 2,000 million euros less than last month. This means that family debt in Spain has fallen for six consecutive months. Compared to the same period last year family debt has fallen by 1.1%.

However, debt owed on housing went down by just 0.3% compared to the same period last year.

Debt owed by businesses is estimated to be 1.29 billion euros which is slightly lower compared to last month and also means that it has fallen by 0.3% compared to last year. This is the first fall after eight months of rising debt.
