Madrid is one of the candidates to host the 2012 Olympic Games

Madrid is one of the cities bidding to host the Olympic Games in 2012. Spain's capital city will be competing against other major cities (such as New York, London, Paris...) and representatives are hoping that the city will be one of the favourites. Madrid has included the following reasons for hosting the Games in its application:

- It is a city "open to the rest of the World", where thousands of people from other areas of Spain and the international community live together
- Madrid embraces culture and sport. It is home to one of the world's most famous football clubs, and is proud of its cultural and historical heritage
- As a modern European capital city, it has the infrastructure necessary to host an event such as the Olympic Games
- Madrid is the only great European capital city which has not yet hosted the Olympic Games

For the 2012 Olympics there exist two main options, Madrid and Paris. Madrid is a great city but unfortunately I do not believe it fits the profile for an Olympic host. The recent terror attacks have rendered this city unstable and its support from the past government for the United States of America make it a probable future terrorist target. Paris on the other hand remains much more neutral for terrorism as its support for the war on terror was none. The Spanish city, being such a likely target, would make this event disastrous and put at risk the lives of many people unnecessarily since another city could be a better host.

I´m german and I was in Madrid after the 11th march, i know it was horrible for madrilians but the terrorist attack could take place in another city, this is not a reason for not considering Madrid as a good candidate, do not provoke people with these comments. i can say that spaniards are marvellous.... MADRID IS GREAT!! more than Paris where people are very chouvinist, French people are arrogant, ......
