Heavy rain during Monday night in Andalucia has resulted in the death of three people. Although some rain had been forecast the amount of rainfall during such a short period of time was completely unexpected. In fact the President of the Andalucian regional government, Jos\u00e9 Antonio Gri\u00f1\u00e1n, said that people had been more worried about wild fires caused by lightening than flooding in the affected areas.
According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) 216 litres of rainfall per square metre fell on Aguilar de la Frontera and 135 litres on Bujalance, both in the province of Cordoba. <\/p>\n
A 36 year old man died in Bujalance, when a wall in his garden collapsed on top of him when he went out to rescue his pet birds. The other two deaths occurred in Aguilar de la Frontera when a 56 year old woman and 29 year old man were swept away in the vehicle in which they were travelling. The driver of the vehicle managed to escpape with minor injuries. <\/p>\n
Following the heavy rainfall on Monday night numberous houses have been flooded and a great number of cars ended up one on top of the other. Mud and rubbish is also a problem in many small villages in the area. <\/p>\n
