According to the latest information Spanish airport workers have decided to call off their planned strikes over Easter and during the summer months. In a referendum held yesterday around 70% of airport workers, not including air traffic controllers, have given their backing to a draft agreement between the main trade unions representing them and the government. This means that the planned 22 days of strikes which would have taken place during Spain\u2019s busiest travelling periods during Easter May, June, July and August will be called off. <\/p>\n
The strikes due to take place on 20th, 21st, 24th, 25th and 30th April; 2nd, 14th, 15th, 19th and 20th May; 13th, 23rd and 30th June; 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 15th and 31st July and 1st, 15th and 31st August.<\/p>\n
Sources speaking on behalf of the trade unions have expressed their satisfaction with the results of yesterday\u2019s referendum because they believe that their members have demonstrated a rejection of the plans to privatize Spain\u2019s airports and have given a clear message to the Ministry of Transport. <\/p>\n
Furthermore they believe that the majority vote in favour of accepting the draft agreement between the government and trade unions gives a clear backing to the proposal that all jobs should be guaranteed and working conditions should be maintained as they are.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
