Following a meeting between Mahmud Ab\u00e1s, the president of the Palestinian National Authority, and the Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trinidad Jim\u00e9nez, in Madrid yesterday it has been confirmed that the Spanish government will support Palestine\u2019s application to become a member of the UN as a sovereign state.<\/p>\n

Trinidad Jim\u00e9nez reafirmed Spain\u2019s commitment to working towards a long lasting peace agreement for the Middle East within the framework of the UN based on the recognition of the existence of both Palestinian and Israeli sovereign states. <\/p>\n
