Following the agreement between Spain\u2019s two major political parties, PSOE and PP to limit spending on publicity during the campaign for the general elections due to be held on 20th November this year it appears that both parties are planning to make use of social networking sites in an attempt to maximise their support and get their messages across to more people. The president of the PP, Mariano Rajoy, has announced that he will have a Twitter account during the campaign for the general elections in order to try and reach more people especially younger voters in addition to his Facebook page which has around 52,000 followers and which gives details of his agenda as well as postings of photos of places he has visited. Esteban Gonz\u00e1lez Pons the deputy secretary for Communications for the PP has said that the party is currently divided between those who favour Facebook and those who prefer Twitter. Pons said that the main objective for his party was to publicise PP candidates, the manifesto and mobilize the members of the party as well as trying to increase the participation of citizens in the search for the best ideas and in his view social networks could help achieve these objectives. <\/p>\n
In fact the president of New Generations for the PP, Beatriz Jurado was quoted as saying recently that Rajoy would attempt to connect with younger votes by means of social networking sites.<\/p>\n
