The Príncipe
de Viana, established
in 1963, is another
of Madrid's classic
restaurants (similar
to Horcher,
Jockey,
etc). It is located
near Bernabeu.
Although criticised
for its lack of innovation
and creativity Príncipe
de Viana remains firmly
conservative cherishing
its traditional Basque-Navarran
roots - dishes such
as mixed vegetables,
cod, meat balls and
delicious desserts on
the menu. Clientele
include important members
of Madrid's political
and business elite.
Both equisite and distinct
in the quality of products
used, professionalism,
table service, decoration
and elegance. Javier
Oyarbide, son to the
original founders, runs
the restaurant in a
traditional classic
style.
Tomás Barrio
directs the table service
which is very efficient.
Excellent wine list.
High prices. Reservations
recommended.
The founders of this
restaurant opened another
establishment in 1973
in Madrid, el Zalacaín,
which was the number
1 place to dine out
for many years.
